Welcome Fr. Deutsch!
Fr. Timothy Deutsch
Born and raised in New Prague, MN. My father was a salesman for AO Smith Co. and my mother was a homemaker and later a nurse. I am the second of six children, having two brothers and three sisters. I attended St Wenceslaus Grade School, from 1st to 8th grade.
I graduated from N.P. High School, 1983 and went to a vocational-technical institute called Dunwoody Industrial Institute in Minneapolis for one year. After that year I pursued studies for the priesthood.
Graduated College of St Thomas in St Paul, MN, BA Philosophy and History, 1990
Graduated St Charles Seminary, Philadelphia, PA, MA theology, 1994
Ordained to the Priesthood, June 12, 1994
I had a few assignments as Parochial Vicar (Associate Pastor), including Blessed Sacrament Parish, Hibbing, MN; Cathedral Our Lady of The Rosary, Duluth; Holy Spirit Parish, Virginia, MN.
I had various assignments as Pastor, including St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Cass Lake Indian Reservation; St Louis, King of France Parish, Floodwood, MN; St Mary The Virgin Parish, Willow River, MN; St Joseph Parish, Crosby and Deerwood, MN.
In 2013, having concluded my assignment in Crosby, MN, I asked the Bishop of Duluth for a three-month sabbatical so that I could discern whether living in a sunny southern climate would help relieve the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder [S.A.D.], a winter clinical depression, which I have had for over a decade. San Diego Bishop Robert Brom accepted this proposal and assigned me officially “in residence” at Our Lady of Grace Church, El Cajon. I spent a year and a half at OLG then served as a substitute at Santa Sophia in Spring Valley, CA, for six months; then Alpine for six years; finally ending my time in CA after three years in Julian, CA, for a total of 11 years.
In December of 2023 I contacted Bishop Felton in Duluth and asked if he would be open to my moving from CA to a southern midwestern state. He offered me the opportunity of serving in Brainerd as a pastoral minister (meaning no financial responsibilities), so I accepted the proposal with the caveat that I would still have the option of moving south if it did not work out. From here I shall see what happens.
I feel very blessed to have this opportunity to spend this time here. Thank you, and God Bless you, and let us pray for one another! Fr. T. Deutsch
