Brainerd Speaker Series
Shroud Of Turin
Shroud Of Turin Event
Come for an evening of faith and learning and see the miracle of the Shroud Of Turin. There will be a presentation at 7:00PM in the main auditorium and the doors will open at 4:00 for a social hour and exhibits. Tickets are free but you will need to reserve your seat ahead of the event.
Who is the Man of the Shroud?
Perhaps you've pondered this same question. The Shroud of Turin—revered for centuries as the actual burial cloth of Jesus—is the most important scientific piece of evidence we have for the miracle of Christ’s resurrection.
The ancient linen cloth depicts a faint image of a brutally scourged and crucified man, who was crowned with thorns and pierced in the side. Mysteriously, the image is hardly on the surface of the fabric, acts as a photo-negative, and includes three-dimensional characteristics. The wounds observed on this burial shroud mirror the Biblical narrative related to the life, suffering, death, burial, and Resurrection of Jesus. Join that to a fascinating and eventful history of survival from the ancient world to modern Turin, Italy, there is little wonder why for generations the shroud has intrigued and captivated the attention of so many, believers and non-believers alike.
Last summer I attended the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis. One of the most popular exhibits was the Shroud of Turin. People stood in line for hours to get a glimpse. The exhibit featured a life-sized replica of the shroud and other artifacts from the crucifixion, like the nails, crown of thorns, and the Roman flagrum used at the scourging. Informational banners and displays outlined the various studies and facts related to the shroud while speakers presented details on the research methods used to illustrate what the image tells us.
Unfortunately, time constraints did not permit me to attend this incredible exhibit while at the congress in Indianapolis. But I am extremely excited to announce to that the Brainerd Catholic Speaker Series will be hosting the same Shroud of Turin exhibit here in Brainerd at the Gitchi-ziibi Center on Wednesday, March 19th! The event will have the same full displays seen at the congress last summer, and renowned Holy Shroud educator, Nora Creech, will offer an in depth presentation. You will NOT want to miss this event!
As with all Brainerd Catholic Speaker Series events, it is open to the public—to anyone and everyone. Please mark your calendars and invite your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors. I promise you will come away with a deeper appreciation of our Savior, the sufferings He endured for our sakes, and the glory of His miraculous resurrection.
Stay tuned for more information on registration in the weeks ahead, but until then you can stay up to date by visiting www.brainerdcatholic.org/brainerd-speaker-series. I hope you’ll join me this spring to explore the science, history, and controversy surrounding this miraculous cloth and discover for yourself Who is the Man of the Shroud?
