Happy New Year!
On January 1st, several men will begin Exodus 90. This program hinges on prayer, asceticism, and fraternity. Without God, we cannot do anything; without self-denial, we cannot learn the taste of things; and brotherhood helps keep us accountable. Some people have simplified Exodus 90 to just “the cold shower guys." Well, that is part of the regiment, but the whole list makes every man want to engage in some way with this program. I encourage every man to step back and consider taking on Exodus 90. This spiritual exercise has many fruits awaiting us. Here is an outline of the things involved with Exodus 90. If you don’t do the whole exercise, take a few of these and apply them in your life.
cold showers
no alcohol
no desserts & sweets
no eating between meals
no soda or sweetened drinks
no television, movies, or televised sports (without permission from the fraternity)
only listen to music that lifts the soul to God
only use computers for work, school, and essential tasks
only use mobile devices for essential communications (delete unnecessary apps)
regular and intense daily exercise
no major material purchases (without permission from the fraternity)
at least seven hours of sleep each night
Pray for the men who will be taking this exercise this year. Pray that their spiritual growth will also help you in your life.
I pray the men in our community will be renewed by Exodus.
Jesus thy kingdom come! In my heart through Mary!
