The Epiphany of the Lord
On the feast of the Epiphany of the Lord, divine light shines. This feast points us to the visit of the Magi, the men from the east. They came looking for the new born king announced to them by the appearance of his star. These men travelled from afar. They brought gifts of great symbolism. They adored the Lord, the new born King.
Their far distance helps us to realize that the message of Christ’s birth will reach far countries. Jesus born at Christmas will transverse through far and distant places even to the depths of our hearts. The Magi brought gifts that reflect the dignity and the life of the new king. Gold for the king, incense for the high priest and myrrh for his solemn burial. These men of afar also worshiped the new born king. They came to adore him. To pay him real homage and submit to him. It is known that the Magi were men to great intelligence yet, at the feet of this king, they submitted in honor. On their way home, they went using another way.
No one comes in contact with Jesus Christ the King and goes home the same. This transformation is what we should all desire in our lives. I want to encourage you to visit Jesus many times this year in prayer and adoration. Through your prayer, begin to find more ways to protect and save lives in our society.
“The Incarnation reveals to us, with intense light and in a surprising way, that every human life has a very lofty and incomparable dignity” -Pope Benedict XVI.
Listen with your heart and watch the star of Christ leading you to him. In our new life in Christ, we will know the dignity of all life. Pray through the power of Christ the new born king, that all human life is protected and cherished. May this Epiphany celebration bring new light to our world beset with violence and killing of innocent unborn children. Bring the light of this king, the light of peace, love, life and joy to your neighbor.
Jesus thy kingdom come! In my heart through Mary! ~Fr. Gabriel
