LENT
Let us begin well this Lenten season. The key to Lent is to allow God to guide us. Many of us might be planning to give things up for Lent.
As we think of Lent, let us ask God what he wants to do for us this Lent. Every Lenten season comes with a promise. God desires to reach deeper; God desires to heal and empower us in a beautiful way.
This year, let us invite God to guide us daily, to encounter Jesus Christ, our savior, and to be transformed by his healing into a life of joy.
The discipline of Lent is summarized by three things: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. These three practices allow us to encounter God. Prayer helps us to encounter God in our mind and our heart. Fasting helps us to encounter God through the self-denial of our bodily needs. Almsgiving helps us encounter God in those in need—the poor, the least of our brothers. In every encounter, let us be joyful. I will highlight the spiritual opportunities we have this year:
Eucharistic Adoration Chapel will be open 24 hours a day. Please commit to an hour to ensure we fill all hours with prayer.
Weekly Stations of the Cross. This custom of the Church enriches us with meditation of the Lord’s passion.
Daily Masses.
Sacrament of Reconciliation.
40 Hours Eucharistic Devotion. This custom allows us to encounter the loving Lord in the Eucharist, learn about the Eucharistic faith, and offer reparation for sins against Jesus.
The Holy Week and Triduum.
St. Paul says, “Let us not grow tired of doing good, for in due time we shall reap our harvest, if we do not give up” Gal 6:9.
Happy Lent.
