Chapel Construction Project

The Queen Of Peace Adoration Chapel is moving to a new location within St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. This project has begun and the process will take until early spring, with hopes to open by Ash Wednesday, 2027. The current chapel will remain open for adoration throughout construction and until the new location is finished.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The chapel will remain on the St. Andrew’s campus. If you are familiar with the current layout, it will move into the former kitchen space directly behind the sanctuary which is essentially just across the courtyard from its current location. There will be an entrance from Willow Street as well as access through the existing hallway inside the building.

  • We have outgrown the current space. The goal of the new chapel is to create more room for people to encounter the love of Our Lord through Eucharistic Adoration by providing seating for more than six adorers at a time, improving handicap accessibility, and creating a safer and more secure environment for those who come to pray. The new space will also allow room for our Faith Formation students to visit in their small groups and other parish formation activities; it may also provide opportunities for additional Masses and other sacramental celebrations in the future.

  • Our first thought on the project cost is approximately $350,000. However, construction details, final design plans, and formal estimates have not yet been completed or provided, so the total cost may change as the project develops.

  • We are trusting in the Holy Spirit to provide. Because this is a shared project among all four Brainerd Catholic churches, our hope is that the chapel will be fully funded through donations as a reflection of our communal prayer life.

  • We are grateful for your enthusiasm and welcome your ideas. A task force made up of 14 members from all four parishes is currently working diligently to bring this vision to life.

  • We do as well. However, the current space no longer adequately serves the needs of the Brainerd Catholic Community.

  • The renovation plans include additional insulation and sound-dampening materials to minimize noise from the hallway and surrounding areas.

  • Yes. The new Willow Street entrance will include a coat room, sign-in area, and restroom so adorers can get settled without disturbing others in prayer.

  • A secure door-code access system will once again be implemented.

    • Studio IO, a Catholic design firm, is currently leading the design process. Their work includes several sacred spaces, including the new chapel at St. John Vianney Seminary in St. Paul. See some of their work here.

  • Volunteers and local companies have already assisted with demolition work (ask Father Gabriel about the day he got to use a sledgehammer on a wall!). Additional contractors are being contacted as the project progresses. Our shared goal is to build this chapel with as much parishioner involvement as possible. If you know of a professional who may be interested in helping, please contact the St. Andrew’s Parish Office sasmoffice@duluthcatholic.org or 218-829-1340.

  • Rome was not built in a day, and neither will this chapel. While the timeline may seem ambitious, creating a beautiful prayer space is a priority for our community. Our goal is to have the chapel open by Ash Wednesday 2027 to begin our annual 40 Days of Perpetual Adoration.

  • While that is a long-term goal, it is not currently feasible. At this time, the Brainerd Catholic Community does not have enough committed adorers to consistently fill all 168 hours each week for perpetual Eucharistic Adoration.

  • This chapel is intended to serve the entire Brainerd Catholic Community and to be a shared place of prayer for all four parishes.

  • Eucharistic Adoration is the prayerful worship of Jesus Christ truly present in the Eucharist. In Adoration, the Blessed Sacrament is displayed in a monstrance so the faithful may spend time in prayer, silence, and devotion before Our Lord. Hear what Father Mike Schmitz has to say here.

  • There is no single “right way” to pray in Adoration. You may sit in silence, pray the Rosary, read Scripture, journal, or simply rest in the presence of Jesus. Father Josh Johnson speaks more about this here.

  • Absolutely He is. An Adoration chapel does not diminish Christ’s presence in the tabernacle. Rather, Eucharistic Adoration offers a unique opportunity to gaze upon Christ exposed in the monstrance and reflect more deeply on the mystery of the Eucharist. Many people feel closer to God when they can see Him physically-He comes to us directly in Adoration and is in our presence while we are in His. Adoration enhances the prayer life of the faithful who often, like Thomas, need to see to believe.

  • Not at all. You are welcome to stay for just a few minutes or for as long as you like. While there are procedures in place to ensure that Jesus in the monstrance is never left unattended, there are also ways to contact others if coverage is ever needed unexpectedly.

  • First-pray for the Holy Spirit to move all involved and that this chapel will come to bless the Brainerd Catholic Community and all who enter through its doors.
