Joanie was born October 18, 1934, in Shakopee, the daughter of Ralph C. and Anna Mae (Revier) Gilbertson. After graduating from high school, she met the love of her life – Roman V. Schultz. The two were married in 1954 and were blessed with five children.
Joanie’s focus was on her family, and she enjoyed staying home to raise them. She also appreciated her time with Madden’s Resort, where she was a buyer & manager for their retail SunBonnet Shops for 40 years. She also volunteered for many years at Confidence Learning Center, where she was on the Board of Directors. In addition, she was head of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary for 10 years.
When she and Romie moved to the Brainerd Lakes Area, they made many lasting friendships through Newcomer’s Club. Joanie enjoyed Bridge Club, and she loved to bake & cook. They wintered in Mesa, AZ, spoiling neighbors & friends with her famous hors d’oeuvres and elaborate Christmas celebrations. Above all, Joanie was a true Matriarch whose devotion to her family was unmatched and whose compassion was unending.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Fr. Brian Schultz, Brad (Vicki Halliday) Schultz, and Teresa (Mike) Petron; grandchildren, Timothy Brian Schultz, Thomas Schultz, Jordan (Chelsey Klimek) Petron, and Tyler Petron; step-granddaughter, Katie (Jeremy) Halliday-James; great-grandchildren, Desmond Schultz, Penny Jane Schultz; and Liam James; brother, Ralph Gilbertson; step-brother, John Vogel; and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Ann Schultz; husband, Roman; and brothers, James Gilbertson, Jerome Gilbertson, and Robert Gilbertson. She had a son from a previous marriage that is no longer in contact with us.
Memorials preferred to Confidence Learning Center.
