Lucia Velasco
Lucia Velasco, age 91, passed away Monday, September 16, 2024 at Edgewood Vista in Brainerd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 23 rd , 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Brainerd. A visitation will be for one hour prior to Mass and invited to stay for lunch to follow. A private interment will be held at St. Thomas of the Pines. Lucia was born to Jose and Martina (Hernandez) Napoles on January 7, 1933 in Jamay, Mexico. She could be considered ‘the real taco queen’ as her tacos were legendary. She was passionate about feeding people, and never let you walk away with an empty stomach. She was a visionary with an adventurous spirit. She enjoyed visiting her family and friends in Mexico, the Brainerd area, and more recently, at Edgewood Vista. Her true purpose in life was to serve the Lord, her husband and her family. She is survived by children, Jose (Lulu) Velasco, Rose (Denny) Hallgren, Juana (Jerry) Palmer, Alicia (Al) Spencer, Terry (Sue) Velasco, Evy (Pete) Bible, Dorothy (Wendell) Meidinger, Sue (Bill) Bollig, Mike (Patti) Velasco, Tom (Ty) Velasco, and John (Pam) Velasco; 25 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Miguel; two children, Marikita and Miguelito Velasco; grandson, Brock Bollig; and great-grandson, Henry Temke. Arrangements are being completed by Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd.
